Artwork and File specifications for Print
We do not currently provide templates however many templates for popular and vintage machines can be found online. For graphic design work, reaching out to someone on Fiverr.com may be a good place to start as we do not provide graphic design services at this time.
Acceptable File Formats
- Recommended: Photoshop PDF (.pdf)
- PDF (.pdf)
- Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
- Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)
JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), PNG (.png), Bitmap (.bmp), Word Document (.doc), and TIF (.tif, .tiff) files are not acceptable formats for printing. Photoshop PDF files are preferred as they cannot be edited and all color pantones, text, etc. are imbedded in the file.
Files can be transferred to us through Dropbox or WeTransfer as they will most likely be too large to email.
- Recommended: 300 DPI
- Minimum: 150 DPI
All files must be at least 150 DPI at 100% scale of the document size. 300 DPI is preferred for highest quality.
Please Note: most images found on the web have a resolution of 72 DPI. This resolution is too low for good quality prints. We highly recommend not using images from the internet for your artwork.
Acceptable Color Modes
- CMYK Mode
CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) are the colors used for printing. All files must be created in CMYK mode to ensure that the final product colors are as accurate as possible. Files using RGB (red, blue green) such as JPEGs may not produce accurate colors when printed.
Please Note: Variation in colors is to be expected in the final product even when using CMYK mode. This is because many of the bright values that you see on your computer screen cannot be reproduced in print.
Vector and Raster
- Recommended: Vector Files
When possible, use vectored artwork to ensure clean, crisp and high quality images and text. Vectored files are those created in programs like Adobe Illustrator and end in .ai or .eps. These files are scalable at any size meaning they can be enlarged to any size and they will retain their high quality and crisp lines.
Rastered files such as JPEGs, PNGs, etc. are scalable to a certain extent before the image begins to pixelate. At this point the image begins to loose it's quality and clean lines. When this happens, the printed product may look blurry or fuzzy.
- Convert fonts to outlines
- Provide artwork in PDF (.pdf) format
If your artwork has text in it, please convert the text to outlines if you are able or you can provide us your artwork in PDF format. Errors may occur in the printing program if the font used in your artwork is not converted to outlines (paths) or is not embedded in your file.
To prevent this from happening you can convert fonts to outlines (paths) in programs such as Adobe Illustrator. Saving your file in a PDF format will embed the text fonts into the file so this is also acceptable.
